After years of white reigning supreme, bold colours are making their way into kitchens - dark cabinet fronts, stone countertops, and accessories in shades of burgundy, deep green, and sapphire. Dark kitchens have been dominant for two seasons now and there's no sign of a change! How do you furnish a kitchen with black or grey cabinets? You'll find out everything in our magazine.

Are you tired of white, ascetic Scandinavian-style kitchens? Yes, we know, the whole interior design world was fed up with them a year ago. White in the kitchen is not only boring and ubiquitous, but also impractical – anyone who has spent their time with a cloth in hand, wiping cabinets after every cooking session, knows this all too well. Fortunately, it's time for a change! Bold colours are making their way into kitchens: black, graphite, browns, as well as burgundy, sapphire, and bottle green. Dark cabinet fronts should have a matte finish and complement the countertop – this season, stone, marble, and trendy terrazzo are king, which many Poles unfairly associate with the impoverished PRL era. Now, terrazzo is taking the design world by storm in living rooms and kitchens worldwide, as we wrote about in the Magazine: 5 Interior Design Trends for Autumn and Winter.

And what accessories will look perfect in dark kitchens? We've got five tips for you.

Black & White Kitchen...

...a classic where we reverse the proportions! Instead of a light kitchen with black accessories, we suggest the opposite. White accessories will liven up a dark kitchen and fit perfectly into a minimalist vibe. If your flat is bright and uses only muted colours, a contrasting kitchen will become the heart of the home, captivating everyone. Snow-white accessories and accents will look best with black cabinets, for example, a white kettle or a black and white salt and pepper shaker duo. If you're not keen on a high contrast, opt for graphite fronts and cream-coloured appliances instead.

Our Advice

When you choose simple furniture forms, a matte finish, and white accessories, you can go wild with the shapes of your accessories. Don't be afraid to pick original shapes and inventive additions!

Naturally, with Wood and Stone

Dark fronts will look fantastic with natural accessories – wicker, wood in various shades, or granite. Such a kitchen simply must have plants and herbs! Which herbs should appear in your home, we advise in the Magazine: How to Cook Deliciously and Aromatic? Herbs and Spices in Your Kitchen. Don't forget to display wooden chopping boards, preferably one with an interesting texture. Among plants and stone accessories, wooden knife blocks will look perfectly at home. They are not only striking but also very practical – you'll always have your knives at hand while cooking.

With a Copper Sheen

This season, we're furnishing kitchens with flair, so it's worth reaching for materials and colours that might have seemed too flashy before. This is the case with copper, which looks more unique than gold, while being both warm and elegant. In dark kitchens, copper will look sensational – it will warm up and brighten the interior, and also serve as an interesting colour accent. When choosing pots and pans, move away from the usual stainless steel and opt for copper or rose gold, and they will become the most intriguing elements of your kitchen décor. If you prefer classic gold, take a look at our Magazine: Gold Season, or Gold Accessories in 5 Ways.

Everything on Show

Dreaming of more colour in the kitchen? Choose transparent accessories, and the oils, spices, and everything you put in kitchen containers will provide the colour. Fancy forms will showcase the colourful, delicious contents, simultaneously demonstrating that this home is inhabited by lovers of good food! In transparent oil and vinegar dispensers, you can prepare homemade flavoured oils, for example, with chili, rosemary, or garlic. They will not only taste great but also look fantastic, and the kitchen will take on a modern character. Glass accessories will also allow you to enjoy the vibrant colours of spices or tea.

Bold Accents

Simple solutions always work well. Not a fan of glass or copper, and tempted by a strong colour? Go for monochromatic accessories in deep green, sapphire, or burgundy, which are incredibly fashionable right now – pastels have simply gone out of vogue. Opt for bold, vibrant colours – a mixer in a luscious red or intensely blue porcelain will be a brilliant complement to a modern kitchen. Worried the kitchen might become too dark? Ensure you have appropriate, practical lighting, and darker colours won't be an issue at all!
