Why should you eat sorbets?
Juicy, cooling, fruity sorbets are an excellent, fat-free alternative to traditional ice cream. Fruit sorbets are light and low in calories, so we can indulge in them even when on a diet. Their main ingredient is fruit, which means sorbet ice cream is an additional source of dietary fibre – an ingredient that supports metabolism and aids digestion. It's worth adding that sorbets are vegan because they do not contain milk or eggs. What's more, they are perfectly cooling and refreshing, giving us a moment of respite when the heat is pouring down from the sky.
It's worth preparing sorbet ice cream in the comfort of your own home. Making them yourself is incredibly simple and quick, and it guarantees that they contain no chemical additives such as preservatives, artificial colours, or flavour enhancers. Just a few simple ingredients and practical ice cream accessories are enough to start producing homemade, natural sorbets in your kitchen.
Strawberry sorbet – homemade ice cream recipe
The appearance of the first strawberries at the market is an excellent opportunity to prepare refreshing, light, and juicy strawberry ice cream. Preparing them won't take you long, and you'll be able to enjoy the taste of this delicious dessert after about 6 hours. All you need is a blender and a few simple ingredients. Adding lemon juice to the ice cream ensures that the sorbet retains its beautiful, red colour. Meanwhile, vodka prevents ice crystals from forming, though you can omit it. And if you're wondering what to use instead of white sugar, we've got a suggestion! Instead, you can sweeten your strawberry sorbet ice cream with cane sugar, xylitol, stevia, or agave syrup.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg of strawberries
- approximately 1 cup of sugar (the exact amount depends on the sweetness of the fruit)
- 0.5 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons of vodka
Preparation:
- Wash, dry, and hull the strawberries. This task will be much easier and more pleasant if you equip yourself with a clever kitchen gadget, such as a strawberry huller.
- Transfer all ingredients to a blender jug, blend thoroughly until smooth, then put it in the fridge to chill.
- Blend the chilled mixture, pour into an ice cream container, and place in the freezer.
- During chilling, blend the mixture every 30 minutes for the first 3 hours. This will prevent ice crystals from forming and make the sorbet fluffier.
- Serve the homemade strawberry sorbet with an ice cream scoop into dessert bowls, then decorate the dessert with mint leaves, fresh fruits such as blueberries, blackberries, or wild strawberries, or chocolate sauce.
