A guide for everyone for whom winter is a tough challenge!

A lover of winter and frost, eagerly awaiting the cold season. Already in June, they're planning a skiing trip. They always turn down all the radiators and get sunstroke at 22 degrees. If you're reading this, it's clear – that's not you.

You prefer holidays under palm trees. You deeply believe that humans weren't created to live in temperatures below 20 degrees. You've heard whispers that some people happily go out to walk on crunchy snow, but you've never understood why. And this text is precisely for you! How to survive the frost with a smile on your face? You'll find out everything below.

1. Warm up your home

Air circulation

When the temperature outside drops sharply, do you crank up the radiators to maximum power and still feel cold? Of course, the problem might lie with the heating itself, but before you jump to that conclusion, first take a look at the placement of your radiators. Are they obstructed by furniture or hidden behind heavy curtains? For warm air to circulate freely around the room, it needs a bit of space, so make sure your radiators aren't covered.

Window sealing

If your radiators are in good order, check your windows. Did you know that many modern models have a winter mode that allows for extra sealing of windows for the colder months? Pay attention to whether your windows have this option! Also, make sure the seals fit tightly to the frame and that their continuity is maintained. Sometimes it's these little things that make your home feel like it's in the Ice Age.

Warm rug

Are your feet constantly freezing? Don't worry, you can easily change that! A warm, wool rug will sort it out. Choose a soft-to-the-touch model, for example, a shaggy rug with a long pile, and you won't want to step off it.

2. Snuggle under a warm blanket

Some things are more and less essential, but a warm, thick blanket is an absolute must-have for anyone who feels the cold! Thick socks and a toasty throw will ensure that no matter the temperature outside, you'll definitely not get chilly. And is there anything nicer than watching a film or reading a book under a warm blanket when it's snowing outside? It's a comfort zone you don't have to leave at all! ;-) For keeping warm, a wool blanket is best, as it allows air to pass through and perfectly regulates temperature. Choose a modern design that matches your interior or a Boho-style blanket, and when you don't need it, it will perfectly serve as a decoration for your living room or bedroom.

3. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach, so drink something warm

Time to admit it: a large mug of hot coffee might sound cliché, but it truly works wonders! A warm brew, which will warm your hands and your heart, can work miracles. We recommend anything you fancy: it could be hot chocolate, sweet winter coffee, aromatic tea with honey and ginger... and if you need an exceptionally strong internal warming, prepare mulled wine fragrant with spices. We've gathered some tried-and-tested recipes for you that will melt away any chill and any heart: Mulled wine – 5 recipes for a winter 'grzaniec'.

All good things must come to an end, and so the bottom of the mug often arrives sooner than expected. However, there's a solution: get yourself a thermal jug, thanks to which your freshly prepared drink will stay hot for a long time, and you'll only need to top up your mug. And what if you have to leave your cosy nest and venture out into the frost? Take hot tea in a sealed thermos, and no temperature will scare you!

4. Create a good atmosphere

To keep you warm not just in your hands and feet, but also in your heart, create a cosy atmosphere in your home. There are a few simple tricks to achieve the desired effect, such as adding plants, lighting a scented candle... but we won't say anything more about that, as we've dedicated an entire Magazine to this topic: Winter outside, May inside! Ways to create a cosy interior.

But a good atmosphere at home won't be possible if you don't take care of the air. Unfortunately, frosts in Poland are often accompanied by increased smog, and polluted air certainly doesn't contribute to a pleasant atmosphere. Conversely, radiators turned up to maximum power quickly dry it out. That's why, especially when it's cold outside and hard to breathe, you should make sure you can take a deep breath at home! Invite the best possible flatmate into your apartment: an air purifier or humidifier. We promise, you'll never want to live without it again!

Tip

More about how to improve air quality in your flat can be found in our Magazine: Take a deep breath! Humidifiers and air purifiers for the home.

5. Find an enjoyable activity

An evening with a good book or your favourite series can't go wrong! Why go out when you can wrap yourself in a warm blanket and relax within your own four walls? You can also spend time in good company, because nothing gives as much warmth as your loved ones. From our side, we suggest puzzles or classic board games, which everyone knows, so you won't waste time explaining the rules :) Card games are also a great idea – they work in any company and in any situation. And if you don't feel like reading or playing, you can simply look out the window with satisfaction at the falling snow and enjoy the fact that your home is warm and cosy regardless of the weather!
