Today, we want to talk about one of those brands whose creations simply cannot be ignored. Timeless design, elegance, supreme quality, and functionality – that's Villeroy & Boch for you. Discover the history of this exceptional company and fall in love with its extraordinary tableware!
Villeroy & Boch is a leading producer of porcelain products worldwide. The brand's name is no accident; it comes from the surnames of its two founders – Nicolas Villeroy and Jean-François Boch, who brought it to life. The company's beginnings stretch all the way back to 1748, when it was established in a small village in France – Audun le Tiche. Interestingly, the first factory, created by Boch himself, didn't produce porcelain, but rather… cannonballs! Over time, their manufactory transformed into a pottery workshop. As years passed, Boch's sons, keen to continue the family business, set up a porcelain manufactory near Luxembourg. Another factory later emerged in Mettlach, Germany, where its main headquarters are now located. It wasn't until several decades later that it merged with the company run by Villeroy! The collaboration of two entrepreneurs with a similar vision and exceptional ideas gave birth to a brand whose products have captivated customers for years. Subsequent generations of the Boch and Villeroy families have continued to run the company to this day.

A fascinating tidbit is that representatives of the Boch family were on excellent terms with none other than… Vincent van Gogh! The result – and indeed, proof – of this acquaintance is the portrait of Eugène Boch painted by the artist. The men, united by their passion for painting, were friends for years. The painting can still be seen today in one of Paris's museums – the Musée d'Orsay. The extraordinary history of two immensely talented families continues and will undoubtedly carry on for a long time to come…

The reason why the brand's products enjoy immense popularity is the materials used in their production. This includes primarily top-quality bone china and premium-grade porcelain, also known as fine china. It is considered one of the most luxurious materials. Although it is truly thin and looks very delicate, it is characterised by very high durability and nobility. Dishes made from this type of porcelain have a subtle sheen and delight with their warm, white hue. Importantly, they can be safely washed in a dishwasher and used in a microwave, which is something many customers look for these days.
