Nowadays, developers are increasingly trying to satisfy discerning flat buyers, yet a spacious balcony or terrace is still the domain of the most expensive flats, those with large floor areas or simply more carefully designed... Most of us have to make do with a rather narrow space which, although it does not offer many design possibilities, can be decorated with taste. After all, everyone wants to sit on their balcony as nicely as in their elegant living room!
Immerse yourself in a thicket of lush vegetation...
If you want your balcony to truly act as a green retreat, plants are essential to create a kind of pergola to shield you from prying eyes and isolate the sounds of the street on the one hand, and to be a substitute for a garden that you can look after and admire as it grows on the other.
One way to make ergonomic use of the balcony area is to enclose the upper part of the balcony railing with a kind of openwork pergola, where climbing plants can be planted, e.g. annuals such as Japanese hops, sweet peas, Kobe, nasturtiums, or wolfsbane, or perennials such as ivies, honeysuckles, grape and trifoliate vines. A similar effect can be achieved by running the stems of the plants along ropes tied to the balustrade and ceiling.

In addition to the plants themselves, which should be chosen according to personal taste but also to suit the conditions on our balcony, the pots in which we plant them are important. This can, of course, be eased by the use of practical pot holders - so that you don't have to worry that the plant will rebel during the repotting process and won't take to the new location...
Modern forms
Green plants that have subtle flowers or no flowers at all, such as various grasses, deciduous trees, ivies and conifers, will look beautiful in simple geometric pots. If chosen to match the colour of your home, they will make your balcony a natural extension of your home... This is a suggestion for owners of houses decorated in a minimalist and Scandinavian style.

Natural materials
Flowering plants such as geraniums, petunias, begonias and verbena will look most beautiful in pots made of ceramic, glazed in natural shades of beige, brown and terracotta. Such pots and casing will suit both a rustic, modern and classic style home and balcony. We also recommend pots made of wicker and bamboo.
Smart accessories and a watering can are all you need! You will find innovative plant accessories from the Eva Solo brand, among others. Once the flower arrangement on your balcony is ready, don't forget to stock up on the necessary accessories. By looking after the plants - transplanting, watering, pruning - we can also relax...
Balcony plants can be grown in an all-purpose flower soil. Species which require a particularly rich substrate, such as geraniums and petunias, are best planted in a special substrate designed for them. Plants should be watered and fertilised regularly and dead flowers should be removed.

Apparently, care can be learnt by anyone, but if you're able to kill a cactus in a week, we highly recommend smart pots, which are not only stylish but will do all the work for you! They water the plants themselves, illuminate them when needed and nourish them. Your only job is to admire the herbs and plants as they grow luxuriantly. And this is no magic, but a super intelligent garden!
Note: You can currently take advantage of a promotion on smart pots by Botaneo and Veritable - an herb container for 1 penny with each pot!
