International Sun Day falls at the beginning of May. It's a good opportunity to bring some sunshine into our homes. Because let's be honest, we can't always count on the sun outside, and after all, we all love the warm rays of the sun warming our bodies and souls!

International Sun Day is a celebration established by NASA (the American Space Agency) in 2000 to introduce people to the wonder of nature that is the Sun. The celebrations focus on spreading knowledge about the Sun and its huge impact on life on our planet, as well as encouraging the use of renewable energy sources. And above all, on this day we can thank this yellow orb for all it does for our planet!
Some sunny curiosities
- The Sun is quite the old-timer. It's probably over 4.5 billion years old. We'd love to know its secret to longevity...
- The temperature inside the Sun can reach 15 million degrees Celsius, so we'd advise against close encounters.
- The Sun is at the centre of the Solar System; other planets revolve around it, and so do we.
- A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon aligns perfectly between the Sun and the Earth.
- It takes about 8 minutes for sunlight to reach Earth, which for us is like two tram stops.
- The Sun is a true giant; our Earth could fit inside it 1.3 million times!
- Chasing the sun is probably pointless – it travels over 200 kilometres per second. Not even Formula 1 cars can do that.
- We owe romantic sunsets and sunrises to the fact that our atmosphere scatters blue and green light the most, so the rays take on warmer hues then.
The power of yellow
Colours have their own power and symbolism, and when used wisely, for example in interiors, they can completely transform them. That's why they should be appreciated. Yellow is joyful, optimistic, and intense; it expresses confidence, but also lifts the mood. Sometimes, however, it also symbolises betrayal and jealousy, but we're focusing on its positive traits!
In psychology, it's believed that yellow positively stimulates brain activity, sharpens the senses, and is good for memory. It also encourages conversation, so it's probably no coincidence that it's often used in training sessions and conference rooms ;)
