What is the idea behind Muuto?
Muuto is a Danish brand that was conceived and founded by two ambitious designers Kristian Byrge and Peter Bonnen in 2006. From the very beginning, it was guided by the thought:
"It is the objects that influence our impression of a space and whether we feel comfortable in it".
This is why the designers set out to do everything possible to ensure that each of their products carried this idea with them. On the one hand, Muuto is firmly rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition and draws the best from it, while at the same time looking firmly ahead and seeking a new perspective.
It seamlessly seeks to combine aesthetics, functionality and robustness with visionary materials, new working techniques and creative thinking.
What does the name Muuto mean?
Muuto comes from the Finnish word muutos, meaning precisely a new perspective!

Muuto designers
The brand collaborates with experienced and ambitious designers who are close to their idea - an interior should evoke positive emotions and provide us with mental and physical comfort. It should evoke good memories, give us an interesting sensory experience (e.g. when we move our hand across the fabric) or capture our attention in a pleasant way (e.g. by the sound a lamp makes when it is switched on).
Muuto assumes that customers tend to gravitate towards things that, on the one hand, are familiar and sympathetic to them and , on the other, have a hint of novelty. Furniture and accessory designs should incorporate these elements, but without dominating the space. After all, it all depends on the context and perspective - in one interior a chair will look delicate and blend into the background, while in another it will be the focal point. It is our decision.
Responsible design
In the world of design (as in many other fields), there is a very good trend towards taking responsibility for one's actions and designs in the context of the environment and the future of the planet.
The Muuto brand strives at every stage of production to introduce innovations and improvements that will help to act in the spirit of sustainability.
The main objectives are:
- Eliminate 100% polystyrene from packaging by 2025.
- By 2025, to create a spare parts base that allows us to repair the product to make it last as long as possible, instead of throwing it away.
- By 2030, reduce greenhouse gases by 50%.
- By 2030, all wood used in production will come from certified sustainable crops.
- By 2030, 75% of the plastic used in production will be recycled.
