Looking for a decorative yet practical accessory to quickly and easily transform your interior? Opt for a rug! We know that choosing one isn't the simplest task, which is why we've prepared a practical guide to help you pick the right rug for different rooms and match it to your home's interior style.
A rug for the living room is one of those practical and decorative interior design elements that can easily transform the character and arrangement of a room. The presence of a rug in the living room also encourages relaxation, where after unwinding on the sofa, you can feel a pleasant softness under your feet.
Which rug should you go for? Its choice largely depends on the size of the living room. In larger rooms, big 160x230 rugs work wonderfully. The rug can be placed in the central part of the room or used to delineate certain zones, for example, separating the relaxation area from the dining area. However, a stylish accessory of this type doesn't necessarily have to be large and grand. A small 120x170 rug will perfectly complement the arrangement of a not-so-spacious living room. In both cases, however, you should consider the placement of the product, adhering to a few rules. What rules are those?

It is suggested that at least two legs of the sofa or armchairs should rest on the rug's surface. This way, the rug will blend better with the overall decor and won't appear too small. The distance from the door is also important. Doors will open and close freely if you place the rug about 1 metre away from them.
Which living room rug to choose? The most practical option will be a short-pile rug, ideally an easy-to-clean flat-woven rug that can be quickly vacuumed or washed. Another important consideration is the rug's grammage. The higher it is, the more the rug will boast greater durability, resilience, and resistance to deformation. Furthermore, remember to avoid choosing a wool rug if you have underfloor heating installed at home. Why? Wool is a natural thermal insulator, so a rug made from this material could negatively affect the efficiency of your heating system.
In the dining room, we eat and often prepare meals, so it's a place particularly prone to various dirt and stains. Therefore, the primary criterion you should follow when choosing a rug for the dining room is ease of cleaning. It's worth opting for a model made of synthetic fibres, characterized by high resistance to dirt and stains. Synthetic fibres are durable and robust, so you can clean them as often as needed without fear of damaging them. A dining room rug must also be resistant to mechanical deformation and friction so that the weight of the table or moving chairs doesn't negatively impact its appearance.
Remember to properly select the size and shape of the rug, which should be similar to the shape and proportions of the table top. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that it should be about 100 cm wider on each side than the table. It's good to keep this in mind to avoid a situation where chairs partially rest on the rug and partially on the floor when pulled out. A too small rug will disrupt the room's proportions and won't properly delineate the dining area of the interior, while a too large one might overwhelm our dining room.
A rug in the bedroom gives the interior cosiness, warmth, and a unique atmosphere. Apart from its obvious decorative function, it also plays an important practical role. We probably don't need to convince anyone that it's lovely to place your feet on a soft and pleasant-to-touch rug right after waking up. The bedroom floor is not as exposed to dirt as in the living room or dining room, so you can successfully opt for a shaggy rug or a fur rug. These types of models not only look great and are incredibly fluffy but also have another advantage. They are thick, which means they excellent at dampening sounds.

Where should you place a rug in the bedroom? It is suggested that the bedroom interior arrangement looks best if the rug frames the bed on three sides. The margin on all sides of the furniture should be approximately 50 centimetres. Equally attractive are two small rectangular rugs, placed on each side of the bed.
The hallway is the calling card of every home, so the rug on the floor in this interior should impress with its impeccable appearance and style. However, you can't forget that the hallway is a rather demanding room, where you often walk in shoes. Therefore, just like outdoor rugs, hallway runners should be characterized by high durability and resistance to all types of damage and dirt. In this room, rugs made of synthetic fibres, such as polypropylene, polyester, or acrylic, work best. A good choice is a corded rug, which boasts durability, resistance to dirt and damage, and is easy to maintain and clean.

As for the shape of the hallway rug, it really depends on the size and shape of the room. In long and narrow hallways, rectangular rugs look best, while for slightly wider or square rooms, it's worth choosing round and oval rugs, which will perfectly diversify the arrangement of the room.
A rug will serve as a unique interior decoration and further emphasize its ambience and character if you match it appropriately to the style of the room in which you intend to place it.
Modern, minimalist interiors are the perfect space for rugs that surprise with original patterns and shapes. Modern rugs, among which you'll find many interesting, multicoloured, and patterned models with geometric figures, engaging graphics, as well as rugs inspired by Moroccan motifs, will allow you to enliven the interior and even subtly change the style in which it was arranged. Simply opt, for example, for a turquoise rug, which, placed in a minimalist room maintained in light and subdued colours, will give it an interesting and unique character.
In turn, in interiors maintained in the Scandinavian style, whose characteristic features are lightness, simplicity, and the use of furniture and accessories made of natural materials, cotton and wool rugs in calm, subdued, pastel colours look beautiful. A white rug, a black and white rug, grey, or dusty pink are ideal choices for a Scandinavian-style interior.

A rug is also an excellent solution for loft interiors. In such arranged spaces, geometric rugs look great, but also vintage rugs with distressed finishes, which perfectly break the raw and minimalist convention, enlivening and adding character to the space. Furthermore, they allow you to showcase the beauty of wooden or concrete floors. It's also worth paying attention to the colour scheme. A grey rug or graphite, as well as a beige or brown rug, are excellent choices for loft interiors.
Are you facing the choice of an accessory for a boho-style interior? Rugs with fringes, ethnic motifs, or simple patterns, such as Moroccan clover or a single-colour model with a braided pattern, will look splendid here. Rugs in this style are kept in subdued colours. Beige, brown, and grey shades reign supreme. A boho rug will warm up the interior, add cosiness, and introduce eye-catching patterns.

Unique and inimitable vintage-style interiors demand original decoration, such as a beautiful rug with characteristic distressing and an aged look. Opt for a red rug if you want to introduce a strong, eye-catching decorative accent into your interior. You can also choose an elegant model kept in neutral colours, such as a cream, grey, or brown rug. Regardless of which model you choose, one thing is certain – a vintage rug inspired by classic patterns is an interesting decorative element that will add exceptional design to any room.
We hope that thanks to the above tips, you'll have no problem choosing the right rug. Opt for a functional and practical rug that will perfectly complement the entire interior design, giving it a cosy, original, and unique character.
