A feast for the eyes. How to decorate platters and plates?

Fresh vegetable salad or duck served with plums are dishes that very often look impressive on our table. However, even the most ordinary Shepard's pie can impress with their appearance. It is enough to decorate the plate or the dish itself properly to make it a feast for both taste and sight.

Take care of the composition

When we watch cooking programs, every dish looks very encouraging - professionals attach great importance to the visual effect. From our perspective, placing two mini carrots and pouring a few drops of sauce over the plate may not seem like something special, and yet... it can work wonders. So it is enough to use a few tricks, for example, to keep moderation and not be afraid of empty spaces on the plate. This way, we accentuate the composition, which turns out to be extremely important. Let's choose the right size of plate or platter - preferably so that at least its edge remains empty. From now on, minimalism and aesthetics count!

Use the sauces

To make our dish delightful, we can play with the sauce to decorate the plate. Although there is a great risk that we will not get a satisfactory effect at the beginning, training makes the master! Sometimes a few drops of sauce and the dish we are going to serve the meal on takes on a completely different character. To make your task easier, let's use appropriate aids - available in every kitchen. It will be the most ordinary spatula, but a spoon will also work, and even... cake decorators! At the beginning, you should make a blob of sauce, but it is worth remembering its appropriate density, as it must not be too runny. Then use a spatula or a teaspoon to rub it over the dish - so that an inaccurate line is formed from the sauce. In this way we can create different shapes, everything depends on our imagination.

Floral variations

For serving...

Dry meals are ideal for decorations made of vegetables. A grateful product seems to be a carrot, which we can create various types of flowers from, such as roses. They are created by cutting into a check and subtle tearing. In order to create such a composition, it is worth to prepare the appropriate tools first. You will certainly need special scissors and knives, as well as instruments for making a spiral of vegetables and for hollowing out seed nests. Various grates and shredders will come in handy. Delicate flower variations will be created by a peeler - we cut out thin slices, e.g. cucumber, and then roll them out, creating petals of a flower of our choice. We can use many types of vegetables, for example, onions, peppers, radishes or tomatoes. The variety of choices makes our plate very colourful.

Sprinkle it with nuts

From now on, the decoration of the plate does not have to take too much time. Let's remember that even simple sprinkling with herbs, nuts or pumpkin and sunflower seeds will improve the visual effect of our dish. Moreover, it is an ideal idea to irrigate a chosen addition, which will give the dish not only aesthetic values but also taste. Nuts can be served as a whole or in a crumbled form. Different types of nuts will be suitable, such as walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia and cashew. Let's use dill, parsley, basil leaves and mint - the green on the plate always looks good and evokes nice associations.

Expose each ingredient

Let us remember that in serving our dish the composition is what counts most. So let's plan the appropriate arrangement of each ingredient and do everything to present it in the best possible way. When we prepare a dish using rice, we can form it on a plate with a bowl. In this way, an even mound will be created, and yet it is the pleasing shapes that we care about. On the other hand, if sauce plays an important role in our dish, it is worth serving it in special bowls. Remember that the choice of the dish affects the perception of a particular dish. There is a reason why there are special serving bowls with so many different applications. Some are better suited to salads and others to pasta serving.

Tone or colourful?

When choosing the right vessel, apart from its size and shape, it is worth taking into account the colour scheme. Let's consider whether our dish will look good in the company of patterns or whether a one-colour bowl will work much better. Dinner plates have a really wide range of colours, so we can come up with creative compositions. For cold meats or cheeses, let's use special serving boards - this is an elegant form of serving, thanks to which every snack looks really appetizing. Add to the main ingredient, e.g. raspberries decorated with mint. Other fruits, such as grapes, pieces of apple and pears, also go well with cheeses. For their preparation, special accessories for fruit and vegetables will prove to be useful such as a slicer or a sharpener. Whereas a serving board is also a perfect solution for the sushi we prepare for the guests.

Be modern

Decorating the dishes

We can also use designer cutlery to decorate the dishes. They are especially suitable for served snacks. Let's pick the forks in cheese, cold meats and chopped vegetables and fruit. The whole can be served not only on the boards mentioned above, there is also a special snack platter. Let's use decorative spoons for sauces. There are different types of them, so we can give our guests special, designer spoons for coffee or dessert. Dishes used for serving can really change the character of the dish. However, if you are still wondering how to decorate a platter, we present our next proposal below.

Bet on original patterns

When serving dry meals, all kinds of napkins, for example, embroidered ones, will be suitable to attract the attention of many gourmets. They will turn out to be perfect as decorations for platters with cold meats - however, instead of a decorative napkin, we can also opt for a patterned dish. The choice is huge - both plates, as well as platters in original, artistic designs, will do fine. When deciding on a particular form of serving, let us remember that sometimes it is worth to bet on unobvious shapes and patterns, which we will certainly surprise our guests with. When preparing snacks, let's also play with their form - delicious meats arranged in a roll or pocket. Their centre should be enriched with boiled asparagus or other stuffing, which is our favourite. There can be many ideas for decorating dishes. However, let's remember that the final effect depends largely on our imagination!
