Designed in 1997 by Alessandro Mendini, the Recinto tray is modelled on an earlier design from the early 1980s, when several pieces of a similar tray were hand-crafted from aluminium. In the late 1990s proposal, Mendini dispensed with the engraved decoration on the surface of the tray and replaced the aluminium with polished stainless steel. The rim of the tray was decorated with a semi-circular curved sheet, which gives the design an original touch. The handles have also been created in the same way. The polished surface of the tray reflects the light, becoming a perfect surface for displaying porcelain tableware. The tray itself, being richly decorated, will look best in the company of decorated tableware.
