Curlew Figurine

The collection of decorative bird figurines by Professor Oiva Toikki is one of the most well-known collectible series and ranks among the design canon. The small works of art designed by the Finnish classicist, who specialises in glass products, captivate with their wealth of colours, patterns and the masterful precision of the material. The designer, thoroughly familiar with the techniques of working with glass, has created a series of unique proposals based on and inspired by the beauty of nature. Each piece in the Birds by Toikka collection has been handmade by experienced craftsmen at the Nuutajärvi glassworks in Finland.
Curlew is one of Iittala's larger offerings that make up the Birds by Toikka collection. Inspired by the curlew, the figurine retains the characteristics of this wading bird, drawing attention to itself with its long beak. The design of the figurine is based on a pattern of light, softly rounded stripes on a background of dark, translucent glass with a dark maroon colour, sometimes tending towards black. The sizable figurine can be a unique addition to a collection or the start of one.
