Time spent folding a map according to the original folds is a luxury that thirsty tourists cannot afford. Wouldn't it be easier to simply
roll the map into a ball and
put it in your pocket? That was the conclusion reached by Emanuele Pizzolorusso, designer of the
Crumpled City series of maps for
Palomar. An extension of this line is the
Crumpled City From The Air map presented here. Thanks to a collaboration with graphic designer Alessandro Maffioletti, the maps in this collection look like
satellite images of the world's most important cities. The
black and white graphics simulate the gentle tilt of the camera in relation to the earth's surface, highlighting the shapes of the most important buildings in an almost three-dimensional way. Bright lettering marking the most important places adds a modern touch to the map. It takes just
two seconds to unfold and fold the map presented here, thanks to a lightning-fast crumple and unfold technique, and the material from which it is made is
extremely durable and
100% waterproof. The Crumpled City From The Air map can also be used as a wall decoration. To do this, simply iron it on at a low temperature before attaching it to the wall.
