Coffee makers and coffee brewers are sometimes confused with each other and considered to be the same appliance. It's time to clear up the confusion - they are two completely different coffee brewing appliances. Find out what the differences are, how to brew coffee in each of them and which is the better choice depending on your preferences!
The traditional coffee maker, also known as macinette, Kupres or Moka, has been around since 1933. It was then that the designer Luigi De Ponti invented the first accessory of its kind, allowing the brew to be prepared as if from the best coffee shop. It takes the form of a small pressurised kettle that allows you to brew the perfect espresso coffee. The coffee brew, which is quite strong and thick, can be used as a base for milky coffees - e.g. cappuccinos or lattes - or can be gently diluted with water - although lovers of the strong taste will not add anything to such a coffee. The coffee maker is a great alternative to the more expensive coffee machine, which takes up much more space. Unlike it, it does not have to be stored on the countertop - you can store it in the kitchen cupboard and only take it out for brewing, thus saving valuable space.
Moka Pots vary in shape, the materials they are made of, and the type of cooker on which they can be used. The most common type of coffee maker is the one in an angular form, made of steel or aluminium. An increasing number of appliances can be used successfully on both gas and induction cookers.

If you want to make a coffee in the moka pot, the first thing you need to do is prepare the water - ideally soft and not previously boiled. Pour enough water into the maker's lower container to reach the bottom of the safety valve. The temperature of the water depends on personal preferences. The next step is to pour in the coffee - for a weaker brew, simply fill half of the reservoir. If you prefer a stronger, fuller-flavoured drink, you can pour in the coffee so that it reaches the very edge of the funnel. Once the coffee has been poured in and levelled - using a spoon, for example - simply place the filled hopper in the bottom of the coffee machine with the water and connect the two hoppers together. The next step is just to brew the coffee on the cooker - so place the coffee maker on the burner, start a medium heat and brew the coffee only until the steam stops coming out. If the coffee boils, it may have a bitter aftertaste - so it is worth ensuring that the coffee maker is removed from the heat as soon as the brew begins to "bubble".
The pist on coffee brewer differs somewhat from the coffee maker - if only in its construction. It is a piston-type device, also known as a French press or plunger, which can also be used to brew many other infusions - such as herbs or leaf tea. Its first design was patented as early as 1852. The French Press consists of a cylinder made of glass and a piston connected to a lid and handle. There is also a sieve with the diameter of the cylinder attached to the piston, which prevents coffee grounds from leaking into the drink. French presses are chosen primarily for their convenience and speed of brewing.
To prepare a coffee brew in a French Press, place the desired amount of coffee in the vessel and pour in enough water to just cover the ground beans. After gently stirring the whole thing, you can add the rest of the water to the machine and then wait a few minutes for the coffee to brew well. Once this time is up, you can press the plunger down to the very bottom of the brewer - this will prevent grounds from getting into your cup or mug. It is best to pour the finished coffee into the vessels immediately after brewing.

There is no one right answer to the question of which coffee brewing accessory is the better solution. If you want a faster brewing process and maximum ease of use, choose a french press. The french press is much more versatile - unlike the coffee maker, it also allows you to prepare an infusion of tea leaves or various herbs. It also doesn't require access to a cooker - just boiling water and ground coffee beans.
If, on the other hand, you value the ritual of making coffee itself and regard it as a relaxing part of your morning or afternoon routine, then a coffee maker may be a better choice. It is a little more complicated to use and requires you to dedicate more time to it, but for many coffee drinkers, it is second to none. When faced with a choice, you don't have to limit yourself to just one accessory at all. You can invest in both a brewer and a coffee maker at the optimum price and see which device works better for you. The FormAdore range includes both traditional coffee makers and convenient piston brewers. These are products of the world's best manufacturers, which have so far not disappointed even the most demanding users.
It is also worth bearing in mind that coffee beans are ground differently for a coffee maker and a coffee brewer, and that there are differences in the composition of the blends and the roasting process itself depending on what you are going to prepare them in.

The most popular - almost all over the world - are the coffee makers made in Italy. After all, coffee tastes nowhere as good as it does in this atmospheric country full of sunshine! A well-known and well-liked Moka Pot manufacturer is, among others, Alessi, whose products can be easily purchased at FormAdore. Coffee makers from this respected brand immediately catch the eye with their attractive shapes, but above all, they are distinguished by their high durability and longevity. If you are looking for a model that will last for years, it is also worth paying attention to the suggestions of the Guzzini or Gefu brands.
If, on the other hand, it is a coffee brewer that will help you brew aromatic coffee every day, models from Espro or Stelton will prove to be an excellent choice - although Alessi and Guzzini also have interesting brewers in their collection. Like the coffee makers, they stand out for their elegant design and, on top of that, their exceptional ease of use.
Both moka pots and french presses of these brands can be found in the assortment of the FormAdore shop - the wide selection allows you to find the ideal model for every kitchen. Coffee and travel enthusiasts will even find a travel drip brewer that can easily fit into a backpack. Whichever type of accessory you choose, you will enjoy the unique taste of coffee whenever you feel like it.

The classic coffee maker or the piston brewer are not the only devices for brewing delicious coffee - although they are the ones preferred by lovers of traditional, simple solutions. In recent years, modern espresso machines have come to the fore, equipped with various programmes, automatic milk frother or cup warmers. We distinguish between flask, pressure and pour-over coffee makers - each offering different options for the user. Drippers with paper filters, which have been around for years, are also popular and can be used for pour-over coffee in just a few moments. The greatest lovers of coffee flavour and aroma therefore have a real field of choice when it comes to choosing a brewing device.
