Rosenthal is a globally recognised and appreciated brand, whose origins date back to 1879. Its founder, Philipp Rosenthal, delved into the secrets of porcelain production and trade from childhood due to his father's profession. When he later travelled to the United States to assist in tableware trade, he noticed certain deficiencies in American porcelain – specifically, a lack of decorative dinnerware. The trip proved crucial – upon returning to Germany, Philipp decided to establish his own manufactory. However, the dishes were to differ from the plain, white porcelain he had seen abroad – Rosenthal wanted to focus on elegant, colourful decorations that were impossible to find in America! He hired experienced painters from a nearby factory to decorate the products, who created true masterpieces on the dishes at Erkersreuth Castle in Bavaria. The manufactory quickly moved to Selb, where the porcelain originated, and ten years later, the Philipp Rosenthal & Co. factory was founded there. In 1916, its creator presented one of the most popular collections to the world – White Maria. Since then, it has been famous in many countries worldwide.

After the founder's death, his son Philip took over the business, whose passion for porcelain was almost as great as his father's. The Rosenthal brand sells millions of plates, cups, and other tableware items every year for over 140 years, delighting customers with designs – both classic and modern. Rosenthal also owns several other interesting porcelain brands – including Hutschenreuther, which produces tableware in a 19th-century style, and Thomas, which focuses on more modern, simple decorations. Each of them has many followers who appreciate elegant, original accents in their home decor.

The popularity of the Sanssouci Gold series is evidenced, among other things, by the fact that in the 20th century, it was the most copied service worldwide! However, nothing can compare to the original, full of intricate floral reliefs. The collection's design is linked to Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam and its gardens – hence its name.
