The
9093 kettle designed by Michael Graves in 1985 (the first product by an American designer in the
Alessi catalogue) is
an icon of contemporary utility
design. Although the form and shape of the 9093 reflects the design trends of the 1980s and 1990s, combining
postmodernism and pop culture, the product also delights its contemporary users. To celebrate the
30th anniversary of the design, a
limited edition version of the Tea Rex was created with
a whistle in the form of a dragon. As conceived by designer Michael Graves, this whistle, changing its form from a small bird to a powerful flying
dragon - a superhero, represents
the transformation of an ordinary teapot into a design icon. The dragon is also a reference to Chinese culture, where it is a symbol of strength and luck. Although the dragon does not breathe fire, it does emit steam from its mouth - a sign that it is time for tea!
This
set of two plastic whistles for the 9093 kettle - with a dragon and a bird - is a set that will change the character of the kettle from a docile bird friend to a superhero who is not afraid of any dragon. The whistles in a metallised brass finish are available in a limited edition of 9,999 pieces.
