Juicer or squeezer? The pros and cons of popular devices

Store-ready juices are no competitors for self-pressed ones. Home-made fresh juice have pleanty of vitamins and nutrients that are lost in the pasteurization of boxed juices. So if you want to have a healthy lifestyle, it's time to make friends with... well, with a juicer or squeezer? Which one of them will become your best friend? Find out which one suits you better!

Juicer for the fruit and veg lovers

Juicers are fast and can process large doses of fruit. The ingredients are first grated with fast rotating blades and then drained from the juice by pressing the pulp against the sieve walls. The juice from the juicer is watery and less healthy than from squeezers, because this method deprives the fruit of some vitamins. What's more, the liquid loses nutrients quickly, so you need to drink it shortly after preparation.

Advantages:

  • a quick method of obtaining juice
  • relatively low price of the device
  • the ability to squeeze many fruits and vegetables in a short time

Disadvantages:

  • device difficult to clean
  • the juice is runny, watery and less healthy than that of an extruder
  • no juice can be squeezed out of herbs or leafy vegetables (e.g. spinach) as well as small fruit
  • the juice is very aerated and foamy, so it is quickly oxidized
  • the juice is not suitable for storage, you have to consume it immediately

Squeezer for those who squeeze 100% out of life

Presses work slower, but more accurately than juicers. They crush the ingredients, so there are many more nutrients in the juice and it can be stored longer. Squeezer juice is not only healthier, but also thicker and tastier than juice from a juicer.

Advantages:

  • the juice is thick, tasty and full of nutrients
  • the drink oxidizes only to a small extent, so it can be stored for up to 72 hours in the fridge without losing valuable vitamins
  • is almost silent
  • easy to keep clean
  • squeezes the juice also from deciduous plants or herbs, as well as small fruits, e.g. berries
  • squeezes a lot more juice from vegetables and fruit, so it's more effective

Disadvantages:

  • higher price in relation to juicers
  • Slower action, so it squeezes little juice in a short time

Hand squeezers

But these are not all the possibilities you have. If you like lemonade or need small, convenient equipment for squeezing small portions of citrus juice, hand squeezers are the best solution. They take up little space, are cheap and easy to clean. Of course, this way you won't squeeze out the whole jug, but you can easily get yourself a glass of fresh orange juice for breakfast!
